🚨 Dubai’s Iconic Toyota Sign Is Set to Leave Sheikh Zayed Road — But Its Story Isn’t Over 🚨
DUBAI 🇦🇪: One of the most recognisable symbols on the Sheikh Zayed Road skyline may soon disappear from its current home — but the legendary red-and-white Toyota sign is not necessarily saying goodbye to Dubai. ❤️🤍🚗
The famous Nasser Rashid Lootah Building, known by generations of residents simply as the “Toyota Building,” is scheduled to be demolished in 2027. 🏙️🏗️
But there’s some good news for Dubai residents who have grown up seeing the iconic sign! 👀
✨ Al-Futtaim Toyota Says the Legacy Will Continue
Al-Futtaim Toyota has confirmed that it has plans to carry the legacy of the famous Toyota sign forward.
However, exactly where and how the sign will appear next remains a secret for now. 🤫
Jacques Brent, Managing Director of Al-Futtaim Toyota & Lexus, said the company wants to ensure the landmark’s importance is honoured in a meaningful way.
💬 “The building may be changing, but what the sign represents is not.”
He also hinted that Dubai residents may find out what happens next before the building itself comes down.
👀 “Keep your eyes up this upcoming period, you’ll know it when you see it.”
🏙️ A Landmark Built Into Dubai’s History
The 15-storey Nasser Rashid Lootah Building was completed in 1974, just three years after the formation of the UAE. 🇦🇪
The giant Toyota sign was added to its rooftop in 1981, when Sheikh Zayed Road looked dramatically different from the skyscraper-filled highway we know today.
Over the decades, the bright red-and-white sign became more than just an advertisement. It became:
📍 A navigation landmark
🏙️ A familiar part of Dubai’s skyline
❤️ A nostalgic symbol for generations of residents
🚗 One of Sheikh Zayed Road’s most recognisable sights
For many people, the building’s official name was almost forgotten. To Dubai residents, it was simply the Toyota Building.
🔄 The Sign Has Disappeared Before
The original Toyota sign stood for nearly four decades before being removed in 2018 after its advertising contract expired.
But its disappearance did not last long! 🙌
Following popular demand, Al-Futtaim Toyota brought the famous billboard back in 2022. The strong public reaction showed just how deeply connected the sign had become to Dubai’s memories and identity.
Now, as the Toyota Building prepares for its final chapter, around 70% of its tenants have already moved out. 🏢
❓ So, What Will Actually Happen to the Toyota Sign?
For now, Al-Futtaim Toyota has not confirmed whether the existing sign will be:
🔹 Relocated to another part of Dubai
🔹 Reinstalled on a new building
🔹 Preserved as a piece of Dubai’s heritage
🔹 Or transformed into something completely new
But one thing is clear: the legacy of the famous Toyota sign will continue. ✨
As Dubai continues to change and grow, the old Toyota Building may soon disappear — but the sign that helped generations of residents find their way through the city appears to be getting a new chapter of its own. ❤️🤍
🥹 For many people, this isn’t just a sign on a building… it’s a piece of Dubai’s memory.
What do you think should happen to the iconic Toyota sign? 👇 Should it be moved somewhere else, or preserved as part of Dubai’s history?
